Marange Clan · Son #27 of Gandidzanwa

The Family Tree of Mwatipedza Village

Our lineage descends from Mwatipedza — the 27th son of Gandidzanwa — whose dunhu in Bocha, Mutare District, became the village we call home. Explore the branches of our Marange clan family below.

Tracing The Line of Mwatipedza — 27th Son of Gandidzanwa

Gandidzanwa, patriarch of the Marange clan, fathered 31 sons in the Makoni area before his family was expelled — giving rise to the clan name Marange (from "Marangwa" — "you have been disciplined"). He led his sons to the current Marange area, divided the land into 31 Matunhu (districts), and assigned each son one dunhu. His 27th son, Mwatipedza, received the dunhu that is our village today. Because Mwatipedza was young, his older sister Tete Amaruza governed as caretaker before handing leadership to Mwatipedza's son — beginning the village headman line that continues with Ishe David Marange today.
